Biography
Vangelis Legakis graduated from Laban Center (London, UK) with BA in Dance theatre and MA in Choreography and holds a Masters in Buddhist Studies from Hong Kong University. He is dedicating his career to offer his knowledge and experience to assist in the growth and education of young artists as well as professionals.
His work is being influenced by great masters such as: William Forsythe, Julyen Hamilton, David Zambrano, Gill Clarke, Rosemary Butcher, Rosalind Crisp amongst others. He was visiting the Forsythe Company regularly (2004-2013) to research on composition, choreography and coordination and he also performed ‘Human Rights’ in 2006 with the company.
He received profound education to teach, spread and develop Flying Low and Passing Through from the 50 days workshop in Costa Rica given by David Zambrano.
He is integrating embodied practices, his experience and knowledge in diverse dance styles, somatics and energy work (Qigong and Yoga) so as to provide a holistic approach into dance pedagogue and performance.
Healing, Therapy & Spirituality
Legakis is a therapist internationally teaching and offering therapies. He studied at Morley College (London, UK) Reiki I, II, & Master’s levels, Reflexology, Neuro-skeletal Re-Alignment, Deep Tissue and Holistic Massage and he furthered his studies in Structural Energy Awakening Therapy – Thai Massage (Mike Tan), Divine Healing Therapy (Dr. Ahlmeirah Ariel Hallaire), Integrative Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapy, Thanatology (Rosemary Wallace), Abdominal Massage (Felicity Joy) and Tsi Nei Tsang (Khun Ni). He has also studied Kundalini Yoga and Chi Gong for many years with great masters including Mantak Chia, Tew Bunnag, Swami Vivekananda, Mahasattva Ananda Sarita, Marika Bolsfeldt and many others.
World Teachings
He is internationally teaching his practices as well as his new educational courses, Contact Beyond Contact, Gliding Space, Embodied Unity, to create new teachers of the 21st Century. His reach has touched Many countries in Europe, Asia, Latin America and USA as well as Australia and New Zealand. He is also teaching the practices Flying Low & Passing Through, Forsythe Improvisation Technologies, Release, Contact Improvisation integrating the philosophies of Tai Chi, Qigong, Kundalini Yoga and healing modalities. He has been teaching at Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, Hong Kong University (DMT), University of Santiago of Chile, Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Istanbul University, Taipei University of the Arts, Taipei University, Beijing Dance LDTX, City Contemporary Dance Company, Aura Dance Theater, and many other art spaces and companies.
World Festivals, Projects & Residencies
He is the creator and organiser of the International Interdisciplinary NO BORDERS project that takes place each year during December in a different country and city. Also organises the Dance and Being Arts Project in Melbourne – Australia, Dance and Nature project in Tenerife – Spain, and Unity Space AiR – Artists in Residency in different continents and cities across the world. Also he created and run three festivals: Hong Kong International Choreography Festival – HKICF together with the Hong Kong International Collective Artists in Residency for Opportunities and Sustainability – HKICAROS.

Educational Facilitators and Teaching Courses
Vangelis has created new courses to endorse new facilitators and teachers of the 21st Century for advancing and integrating dance and healing practices. His workshops, festivals and projects reach beyond dance and choreography, they are workshops of human development by fusing dance, spirituality and healing practices.
Van is the founder and artistic director of Unity Space and The Van – L Dance Company, under which he spreads interdisciplinary art and healing festivals, projects and workshops.
